Book distribution tips for new and established authors? Consider Your Book Cover Design Carefully: Your book cover design is an important tool for marketing your book to readers. With great print quality and a good cover design, no one will be able to tell your self-published book from one that’s published by a major traditional publisher. It’s good to educate yourself on what makes a good book cover design, but if you aren’t a designer by trade, it’s also best to hire a professional.

Facebook page: This free online site is a fast growing mecca of people around the world. Unlike a blog, your notices or blurbs are limited to smaller chunks of information. You can add a cover image of your book, links to your web site, or information about your topic. Twitter account: What is Twitter? Think of it as news radio in real time, all the time in tiny, short bites of information only 140 characters long. Each time you post or tweet something it goes out into a cornucopia of information that people can access on their computers or cell phones. A well informed bio is important.

Write a lot, now. As Hugh Howey, author of the best-selling Wool series, explainedone of his self-publishing tips in a post on his website, he didn’t get to work right away promoting his first book once it was published. Instead, he just wrote more and more: This is going to sound strange, but you are MUCH better off with your 10th work exploding than your 1st work. You’ll never have quiet time to crank out quality material ever again. And when your backlist matches the growth of your first breakout, you’ll do very well for yourself. Be patient. It’s been said by many others, but I’ll repeat it here: self-publishing is a marathon, not a sprint.
