A Bioretention is almost the same concept with a few small details added. These shallow depressions in the landscape are designed to mimic the mechanisms of the removal of pollutants in our forest ecosystems that slow down and treat the outflow. Here is a look into our recent project for the beautiful American Martyrs Church in Manhattan beach Ca. Keeping the Drought in mind as well as plants that can thrive in a cool coastal climate we kept a well balance of plants/shrubs/flowers, you will also notice the retainer wall we also installed. The Siapin Horticulture crew also custom fit some artificial turf in the right areas to save additional water for the the church. Full Video in the gallery below. In Hollywood, at Tioh Park and Play, they were in need of a new parking structure so we got right on that. Outside of the parking structure we installed new decomposed granite walkways and trees surrounding the structure. To give more of an “outdoorsy” vibe we also added boulders for seating. We also planted a vegetable garden for the students. This was all accomplished with us using sustainable landscaping.
The company was started in 1962 by Jack Siapin with the goal of providing high quality landscape construction and maintenance throughout Southern California. In 1978 Jack’s son Daniel joined the firm and became a partner. In 1997, Jack retired selling his stock to Daniel. Daniel’s son Gabe has joined the firm and manages the Maintenance and construction division.
Most rainwater drainage systems are installed underground in places such as landscaped areas and parking garages. Some systems consist of water pipes, while others use concrete rooms on which large filters are installed. Rainwater chambers use fabric filters, stones and pipes that have the shape of a semi-circle so that that water can seep into the soil naturally. Occasionally, rainwater chambers are also a retention system if an impenetrable membrane foil is required. Bioswales are needed to optimize the water filtration and to reduce the drainage of surface water.
