MIDI messages can be broken down into two types: System messages and Channel messages. Most of the time you’ll be dealing with channel messages, although some important functions like clock and transport (stop, start and continue) are system messages. Let’s start with channel messages. Channel messages transmit up to two kinds of data at once. For example, note on and off messages carry the note number value as well as the velocity value—the intensity the note was played with. With Live 10 we can now edit groups of up to 8 MIDI clips simultaneously. This allows us to make changes on the individual members of the group while getting a visual representation of the rest of the clips, which gives us a much more comprehensive picture of the vertical dimension of our productions. In order to enter group mode, we only have to select up to 8 MIDI clips by clicking on each one while holding shift.
